Story

Launched in October 2017, La Filippine is a contemporary accessory brand designed with French subtleties and handcrafted by Filipino artisans.  Creator, Julia Barba-Baudlot, a Filipino-Franco based in Singapore, brings her heritage in craftsmanship and her background in gallery art to design pieces that strike a balance between natural and polished, rustic and urbane.  La Filippine engages French restraint and Filipino artisanal expertise by sculpting natural woven fibers into feminine, understated accessories.

With a focus on working with small family-businesses around the archipelago, the La Filippine collection is intimately related to its provenance and its producers. Our producers are socially conscious and adhere to fair trade principles by way of investing back into their teams of craftspeople: paying them a fair wage, developing and enhancing their skills, offering financial aid, and maintaining safe and decent studio workshops.

The Filipina woman is industrious and intrepid, as evidenced in the fact that matriarchs are managing the family businesses we work with.
